The Social Truce

I’m a hypocrite.

You’re a hypocrite.

Saved and sinner alike -

Y’all are hypocrites.

Now that we’ve gotten the social truce out of the way, let’s discuss some other social things.

Shall we say, you’re a moral person who loves God, believes salvation is through faith alone, and strives in good works to live out that faith. Hypothetically.

Shall we say then, you see a fellow mortal making some poorer choices, maybe justifying a life of sin, and you decide, under honest conviction, to present the Gospel - the story and gift of Jesus come to save us. Hypothetically, you are more likely to get one of the following replies:

“I’m only human; what are you? - perfect?”

“You’re a sinner too” (social truce here).

And comments about a “Sky Daddy”.

A meaningful response is somewhat rare these days.

Shall we say, you later see a brother or sister of the faith making some similar errors or justifying sin. Hypothetically, in today’s Christian culture, you’re more likely to get defenses regarding the following:

“Grace” - poorly defined.

Lectures in “perfection” - and how you need not apply.

And statements concerning “judging” - also without thorough Biblical examination.

A meaningful response is quite rare these days.

I hope it’s not just me who sees how the lines and defenses between worldly/secular and (what is called) Christian culture have been blurred entirely, when not erased.

What Do You Expect?

You can’t judge. You’re not perfect. Who died and made you cop of the world? And also -

Jesus loves me!

This is now the overarching banner of both groups. Haven’t you noticed? And that trend began twenty years ago for anyone paying attention.

All is forgiven in Christ!

Indeed. Only I wonder if they have any clue about what the “in Christ” part means. Hypothetically, I need only to survey a few hundred pastors to find out they don’t.

What do I expect? Well, first it is not my expectation. But it is a very old standard…

I expect that the people who call themselves by God’s name, as God’s children, to then not go and act like, absorb, and carouse with the devil and his fires, throwing down, getting up, running naked with the Phillistines Monday - Saturday.

Did I stutter?

2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?
