VALUES

Welcome to A Curated Existence.

Here are the Great Aunt Mildred values underpinning each post:

INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY

Whether small or large, any arguments, apologetics, or logical conclusions here aim for intellectual integrity. I have eaten a lot of word salads in my day; I am now word salad adverse. If the foundational premise is false or cannot sustain the house of cards, I'm not interested (or taking you seriously).

HONESTY

Whatever anything is, it ought to begin here. As a therapist once said, "If you're not honest with me, I can't help you." Same goes here: I believe if we're not entirely honest with each other, neither of us gain or lose anything (except social points). I'm not social enough to be in it for the fuzzy feel-goods alone. Being honest is the loving thing to do. Anything less than that is a relational facade. (Granted, this is easier to accomplish online than in person... though no less true.)

SOBRIETY

Who's your dopamine hit? Not this blog. Enough said.

BALANCE

By which I mean, I strive to give a fair shake to many sides of an argument when I can or am aware of heated cultural or apologetic debate. This does not mean that I will ride the fence-post; only that I try to be fair - so much as is intellectually honest or necessary to diffuse harmful or unnecessary animosities between brothers.

FAITH

Jesus has been the only one in my corner, my Constant, throughout life. I will and have probably gotten a lot of things wrong... but I try to stay next to him. Whether it's a lament, a cautionary tale, a memoir, wishful thinking, social commentary, or apologetics - Jesus is all this worldly orphan has. My Father in heaven is my Father who looks after me. Taking him out of the picture or the text is not an option. My life orientation orbits Him.

***

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
